"It ain't over 'til it's over"

D o w n s i z e r - D i s p a t c h

Quote of the Day: "Politics is war by other means" -- Carl von Clausewitz

Subject: Don't Despair, Renew Your Resolve to Fight

On Christmas Eve, the cynical Scrooge's of the United States Senate voted to expand the size of government, as well as its power and reach into the medical system.

Even thought it's a chilly Christmas, I'm here to tell you, the battle is NOT over.

On a freezing December day, Lieutenant General Lewis Burwell "Chesty"
Puller, USMC, during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, told his men,

"We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things."

I've spoken to and corresponded with DC Downsizers this week who were tempted to despair. They rightly recognize this bill as a dangerous blow, to our healthcare, to our economy, and to our liberty. They saw yesterday's vote coming, and they see defeat, and worse, the destruction to follow with this tremendously unconstitutional bill.

But I want you to know, "We've found the enemy. We're surrounded.
That simplifies things."

Your enemies are the Democrats who supported this bill. And your enemies are the Republicans, who didn't bother to fight until Americans showed up at Town Hall Meetings and vented their anger.

Yes, your enemies include the very same Republicans who pushed through a bailout bill, now a little more than a year ago. And, if history is any guide, they will be your enemies when they return to power and refuse to do anything to repeal this so-called healthcare reform . . .

. . . that is, unless you continue to fight, and resolve that you will indeed win.

Back in August, I wrote to you about Admiral James Stockdale, a seven year Prisoner of War (POW) in Vietnam . . .

Author Jim Collins once asked Stockdale, "Who didn't survive the camps?"

Stockdale replied, "Oh that's easy. It was the POWs who thought they'd be home by Christmas."

Those who thought they'd be home by a certain date tended to despair and perish when they still found themselves in captivity after their expected freedom-date came and went. By contrast . . .

Admiral Stockdale survived caustic captivity for 7 years by accepting the brutal reality of his situation, and being confident of eventual release. This belief kept him going.

But he did NOT believe freedom would come by any specific date, or in any special way. This is what saved him from despair and death.

Collins, in his excellent book, "Good to Great," labeled these seemingly opposed ways of thinking the "Stockdale Paradox."

The Stockdale Paradox is...

Recognizing and owning the brutal facts, while holding the determination that you're going to win, no matter how long it takes.

It's not positive thinking. It's not fantasizing about how great things will be when everything goes your way, by the next election.

We must think as Stockdale thought. Victory will come at some point, if we keep fighting.

All the greatest soldiers understand the Stockdale Paradox. General George Washington and his men were camped in Valley Forge during Christmas, 1777. It was bitter cold, and there was a shortage of food and a lack of supplies -- including socks and boots. Washington noted, "...you might have tracked the army from White Marsh to Valley Forge by the blood of their feet."

Despite the bleak conditions, men were given furloughs to return home and recruit more men to return with them for the Summer 1778 campaign.

And it was at this time that Baron Von Steuben arrived and took over the training of the men, making them a more effective fighting force.

This defeat is an opportunity to test our mettle -- to better organize, and even expand our ranks.

Chesty Puller played a major role, even leading the rear guard, as his surrounded forces broke out of the noose. The enemy at Chosin suffered incredibly heavy casualties in comparison.

Admiral Stockdale returned home to his family, and took one more turn on the national stage as Ross Perot's Vice Presidential candidate.
Perot-Stockdale received 19% of the vote, and sparked a movement that made federal deficits a political hot potato.

General George Washington accepted the British surrender in 1781, and went on to become the first President of the United States.

And you? What will become of you, fighting American?

The fight ends when we say it ends! Repeat that to yourself. Tell your friends. Then...

Take your members of Congress to task. No one is blameless here. No politicians in Washington is innocent of this travesty unless and until they've proven their resolve to fight with every bit of procedural impediment available to them, and demonstrated their clear intent to bring about Consumer-centered Healthcare, with positive, free market intiatives.

DownsizeDC.org will give you the tools, and will muster soldiers to fight along side of you. The fight resumes Monday. We appreciate your support and wish you a . . .

Merry Christmas,

Jim Babka, President

Observing the Economy

The MSM is grasping at every straw to try to convince us that the economy is recovering. My observations from out there in the "real world" tell a different story.

I've been in the trucking business for 11 years and truck traffic on I-75 and I-95 over the past two months has been the lightest I've ever seen. I was in the Wal Mart distribution center in London, KY a couple of weeks ago. That distribution center has about 50 doors on the refrigerated receiving dock. There were only about ten trucks making deliveries when I got there. This is particularly worrisome because this is the holiday season. In prior years, when the economy was in better shape, that distribution center stayed packed full of trucks from the first of November until Christmas.

Of course the economy will eventually recover, but it hasn't started yet. It would recover more quickly and be more stable if the Obama administration and the Congress would stop interfering with it. Franklin Roosevelt's policies kept the economy depressed for almost ten years. Is Obama trying to follow FDR's lead?

Partisan Politics—A Fool’s Game for the Masses

This was a comment to Robert Higgs blog entry 10/12/2009 that I found to be so true:

"I have attempted to point out to people quite often, the divide and conquer strategy of government.

First, separate us into groups according to race, religion, age, gender, abilities, nationality, geographical location, occupation, economic status, etc…

Second, pit us against each other.

Third, get in the middle and rescue “us” from “them” by regulating “their” actions and stealing “their” undeserved wealth.

What people really need to get through their noggins is that there are really only two classes – Those who believe in the initiation of force as a legitimate means of achieving their goals, and those who do not.

I like to call them the peaceful productive class and the pernicious parasite class."

Changing America

This piece is a little old, but so good and true.

"Climategate Is a Liberal 'News' Media Scandal, Too"

It's all a fraud. It's all a hoax.

Running Out Of Options

A large segment of this nation's population is doing its best to live the American dream. We are the rugged individualists who don't need handouts from the government. We are the people who produce the goods and services. We have made intelligent decisions that have enabled us to be financially secure and have health insurance. We also pay the taxes. Almost all Americans have the ability to achieve what we have achieved, if the government would just get out of their way, and we gladly would provide for the rest through private charity because we are caring people.

We are able to read and understand the Constitution of the United States of America without any help from Supreme Court Justices. We know that all the representatives in Congress who voted for the health care reform bill committed a criminal act because they violated the limits placed upon them by the Constitution. We also know that if this health care reform is enacted it will erode everyone's liberties, make everyone less prosperous, and destroy the high-quality health care that currently is provided to all.

We will not allow the illegal actions of an authoritarian government to ruin our lives, the lives of our children, and the lives of everyone else who lives in this nation. We have voted and petitioned Congress. We have assembled to peacefully protest. None of these measures has been effective. We are running out of options.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY

A very happy Thanksgiving Day to all. Even though I chose to work today and have spent the holiday alone, everything has gone so well. Any time back-to-back Bond movies are on TV, all is well with my little world. May your holiday be a blessed one.

You just might be a progressive...

Radical left-wing nuts are similar to parasites, as they eventually kill their host and die along with it; however, they are also similar to dust in the wind and sheep for the slaughter.

We who love these United States of America are under attack from serious communist radicals. A POX upon them.

Uber Alles...

“America is haunted by Lincoln’s blood lust for a coercive, dominant, unitary, unaccountable, debt-laden central government” whose principle function is “the plunder of society and the redistribution of wealth to the politically privileged elite [like the Cuomo family] and their collection of political sycophants [like Lincoln cultists] who help keep them in power.” In this regard, “the two major parties have become the party of Lincoln, each a metastatic twin of the other.” Abraham Lincoln “opened the door to the Leviathan central state that mandates, manipulates, and regulates virtually every aspect of life in America and seeks unilateral hegemony around the globe.”

Need any more be said? Probably, but not at this time.

Congress-Traitors

The congress-traitors have thrown down the gauntlet. Let's pick it up and accept the challenge. I refuse to live in tyranny.

Pelosi-care

May every single congress-traitor that voted "AYE" for Pelosi-care lose their seat in 2010.

To Obama and his ilk

"He who is void of virtuous attachments in private life is, or very soon will be, void of all regard for his country. There is seldom an instance of a man guilty of betraying his country, who had not before lost the feeling of moral obligations in his private connections."
-Samuel Adams-

Quotes from Samuel Adams

"If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin." IT'S HERE!!!!

"If men, through fear, fraud, or mistake, should in terms renounce or give up any natural right, the eternal law of reason and the grand end of society would absolutely vacate such renunciation. The right to freedom being the gift of Almighty God, it is not in the power of man to alienate this gift and voluntarily become a slave."

Memo to the liar Obama...

Stay out of our small businesses and local banks. We don't want you or your minions screwing all of that up, too.

Local banks are lending money to credit worthy companies, as it should be. On the other side, getting into debt (a/k/a/ spending) does not lead to recovery.

Get the hell out of our way and stay the hell out of our way.

Sarah Palin Socks it to the GOP

She says it all. GO SARAH!!!!

The GOP

The Republican Party is a trap for Libertarians and Conservatives, as it gives them false hope that they can elect politicians who would work toward an agenda of liberty.

The Republican Party, therefore, must be perpetuated because it is an integral part of the totalitarians' strategy.

God and Guns

Not only do we invest in precious metals, we also invest in lots and lots of lead, steel, brass, and wood.

Thoughts

It was quite heart warming to see the large turnout in DC on 9/12/09. This huge march for freedom could not be ignored. This was truly a grass-roots effort. There was no 'leader'. Instead, there was one mind - liberty versus tyranny and the love of our country. There were many, many more people who were there in spirit, I for one.

What I would like to know is are liberty-loving Americans racists? Are they 'Nazis' or 'Fascists'? I am a liberty-loving American. I am a believer-in-the-free-market American. How does that make me a racist, a Nazi, or a Fascist? By definition RNFs hate the free market economy and love big government. It appears to me that many in government are the Racists/Nazis/Fascists.

Some friends and family members look at the world through very different eyes than I, and yet we get along regardless. I truly believe with all of my heart that most of the people in this country are beyond racial/class divisiveness. However, it seems that many in government cling to this divisiveness, probably with the thought that divided those who love liberty will fall.

Regardless of how long this decline into tyranny has been going on, it's getting worse now. Now is what matters.

I have been fighting against all of this for some time, and I had a lot to learn and I am still learning. I love liberty. I love the free-market and capitalism. I love making my own choices. I love the excellent health care we get in the USA. I love how giving and kind most Americans are and how we really pull together when disaster strikes. I love many things about my country.

The bottom line is do we want to have a big central government ruling and lording over us? I don't.

IT'S NOW OR NEVER. WE MUST STOP THE TYRANNY. TYRANNY LIKE RUST NEVER SLEEPS.

Spreading Broadband

Gosh, it's called 'creating competition' when the government steps in and levels the playing field.

REALLY!??!

Take taxpayer money, shovel it to big gov cronies to 'lower barriers to entry for providers and increase levels of competition' in the world of broadband, and call that creating competition. Of course it lowers the barriers. The cronies don't have to pay for any of the equipment!! The taxpayer does!!

Bye-bye freedom of speech if big gov gets their paws on broadband. They want to prop up newspapers, and now they want to regulate the Internet. They will OWN the media.

When will enough be enough before we all get the picture? This cannot be changed simply by voting in 2010 or 2012. Catching my drift?

Stop the madness

A good read.

Sunday, October 18, 2009

I wish with all my heart that people would realize getting government out of health care and health insurance is the way to go to lower costs across the board. It's so simple. The health care and health insurance industries have been government regulated since at least 1964. The government has been the driving force behind the increased costs in these industries. Removing the heavy and inept hand of government from the health care and health insurance industries is desperately needed now.

The DC Marxists want to control every aspect of our lives, and mandating health insurance is one way to do that. It is up to us to stop it.

Volunteerism = Slavery

We are losing jobs at an exponential rate, we are engaged in unending wars, our economy is tanking, and big gov wants what?

It's straight out of "1984". Hell, it's straight out of Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia, and Maoist China. If you don't play pretty, you must be subversive. You will be re-educated or eliminated.

Include me out.

Protestors

It's interesting that there is still a lot of protesting taking place in many areas, but the media are not reporting on them.

The Tea Parties are very much alive and well.

Health care 'Reform'

Where's the outrage? Where are the folks on Medicare? You who are about to be gutted, where are you? All health care reform bills pending in Congress need to be stopped.

Start screaming from the top of your lungs! Get very angry! Storm the streets!

We have sent numerous letters to Congress, signed petitions, supported activists, etc. We are doing what we can. Everyone needs to get on board and stop this snowball from rolling downhill!!

Those of you on Medicare (a/k/a fixed incomes) are going to be hurt in the biggest way. Rationing medical treatment is definitely what's coming down the line...and sooner than you think. This 'reform' is about NOT treating people. It's about KILLING people.

HEALTH CARE REFORM IS NOT ABOUT HEALTH CARE OR YOU. IT'S ABOUT TAXATION AND MORE POWER FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. DON'T BE FOOLED.

BHO, The Defeatist

"Everything to Obama is a personal affront. He thinks we actually care about the color of his skin. He could be pasty white like me for all I care - he's still a despicable little troll with a bad attitude."

Health Care from a Democrat

Lew Says It All...Afghanistan

It's nothing but a Mideast Viet Nam. Deja Vu all over again.

'Universal' Healthcare and CPR

CPR says it. How can anyone with any sense think that government-run health care is 'better' than what we have now in the United States? Sure, it's not perfect, but total government-run health care would be disasterous. This has been proven around the world.

Look at Medicare and Medicaid? If they are not broken now they soon will be. What are you hearing about MA or TN? I know for a fact that here in TN Tenncare is a disaster. It's costly and rife with fraud. The TN legislature tried to implement income taxes here to cover Tenncare. There was no success with that, thanks to the people of TN who fought against it! Massachusetts' 'universal' health care system is already in shambles, and it's only been up and running since 2006: http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=10488. Most media outlets are not reporting on any of this!

Fight against all 'health care reform' bills. Contact your representatives and senators and let them know you don't want any version of government-run health care. Sign petitions against it. Take the polls and vote against it.

THIS MUST BE STOPPED!! NOW!
